The Crucible By Arthur Miller - 986 Words

Teenagers are often treated like children. Adults don’t respect their opinions because they are too young to understand or are too immature. The time period between childhood and adulthood are teenage years. So why do we treat teenagers like children when the teenage years are supposed to prep them for adulthood? However, there are situations were teenagers hold more power than we think. Although these are two completely different genres, The Crucible and the movie, Mean Girls, show how much destruction a group of teenage girls can do. So how could a group of teenage girls, younger than 18, possibly cause so much chaos? The Crucible is a play written by Arthur Miller in 1952. This story illustrates the true and also fictional sides of The Salem Witch Trials. The girls caused such destruction due to their fear of their towns harsh religious beliefs. Few actions of theses girls caused mass hysteria throughout their whole town. In the movie Mean Girls, the girls are motivated by social standing and popularity in their high school. The five girls stand high above everyone else and frighten others, even teachers, in the school. Similarities are found throughout these two stories. In every clique there is typically a leader, or queen bee. Whether it be a team, a class, or a business there is always someone who runs the show and takes charge. Creative Writing The Preparation to Build a Time Machine

The man with the black briefcase walked briskly towards the meeting room, prepared to discuss an hour and a half on his soon-to-be time machine at the seminar. There had been many talks on constructing one, yet no one had tried or began. No one had the resources he had or the skills and dedication he had. He had started working and planning on it three hours to four hours because he believed he could do it and that he would do it. David Sanchez’s supervisors and other executive directors waited patiently as he began setting up. â€Å"You all know I am trying to bend space-time. To conquer what time meant for one of the most famous scientists of all time, Einstein, the fourth dimension. But I wish to take one step further. We, my team of scientists and I have found out it can be possible to travel time, ladies and gentlemen, without exotic matter,† Sanchez said, walking on the stage, staring sharply at his audience. â€Å"So far, we have understood that in order to do so, we must travel faster than the speed of light. Before we construct the machine, however, we also need to understand time. Astronomer Carl Sagan believes time is ‘resistant to a simple definition.’ This means, time cannot be explained just by the tick of the hand on our watches and clocks, nor can it be defined by seasons and sunrises. We must understand that time is so much more complex, that it cannot exist without space and vice versa. How I Got To Where I Am Today free essay sample

My name is Cam, in 2010 1 was only 13 years old growing up in the city of Detroit Michigan. Life was hard for my family, dad had a minimum wage job at the car factory while my mom was going through a recovery treatment for her crack addiction. Had 2 sisters, 11 and 9 years old. We lived in an apartment complex with at least 20 apartments and a swimming pool in the middle, it was the most broken down building ever built in 1973. I had a small circle of friends Kevin, Desman, Marquis, Mark and Jimmy. After school all we did was go to the YMCA across from the C.V. 2 blocks down from school and nag out in the lobby, always spitting bars practicing at least 3 hours a day every day since 2008. Out Of all Of us I was the best, I had the Rhymes that turn your mind to stone. Kevin always competed with me for who was the best, him and I always rap battled but 2/3 times I came out on top. They tried to rap and spit better bars than I did, but once it came to free-styling, was merely impeccable. As time went by we each got better and better, by 2013 1 was now 16. My mom was working in Wall-Mart and dad was promoted to factory manager, life was looking good as far as getting fed and buying clothes. At my school, rapping was a corona interest among all the young and old high school students. Every 3 years SST. Bishops secondary high school held a singing competition at the end of May, this was the final year I could enter since graduates cant. Its also county wide (the whole city) anyone from grades 7-12 could enter with any style of singing. The grand prize was 45,000$, the competition fee was 50$ per person and sickest were sold for 1 5$ each, there were about 2,000 people that attended to win, the audience was at least 10,000 people. This all went down behind the school since there were so many people. Right now it was mid-February, my friend Jimmys friend Kindlier had a dad that knew some people in the local music industry. He was aware of my ability and thought I had great potential, great free styling was very hard to come by. Mr.. Jordan (Snickers dads associate) entered me in a small local rap battle which was in the most ghetto part of town. With people ranging from 18-40, was so young and frail ad to keep protection with me in this dangerous area. So it was the first round of the battle, there was a bracket for the match. I was paired up against a rapper by the name of ETC-9000, it was his turn first. He got a lot of claps and whistling honestly he wasnt half bad. When I stepped up to the microphone, the audience was in complete and utter silence probably due to my size and age. I started off slow then ended with at least a quatrain in my stanza/verse twice! Burning him and his existence. The crowd went wild, easily the most satisfying moment of my entire life. ETC-9000 was so moved by this moment he walked off the stage with his head down and sunglasses on, getting booed at constantly. After a long 2 hours of 4 rounds and watching other people, finally made the final round. I was against a man they called Slim Shady. This man was 62, frail, white, with bleach blonde hair. Went first starting off very fast and ending with 6 long traces. He easily beat me without a sweat on his back, He spit 6 quatrains within the time it took me to spit 3 traces. He won the main prize of 2,000$ while I got nothing. I mourned for a ewe days, knowing had to increase my vocabulary and practice rhyming with new schemes and techniques. My daily routine of rapping with my friends was on and off since I was studying the dictionary and reading lots of books. When did rap with my circle, they started noticing obvious improvement because I was actually trying now. Since there werent many rap battles with prizes in the area had to stay looked until the school competition. Around May 23rd I was prepping my final freestyle for the competition which was in 4 days, I thought it was the most perfect song Ive ever written.

The Religion Of Huckleberry Finn Essay Paper Example For Students

The Religion Of Huckleberry Finn Essay Paper Religion is a simple concept to learn. Websters dictionary defines religion as: belief in a divine or superhuman power or powers to be obeyed and worshipped as the creator(s) and ruler(s) of the universe. Although it is understood what religion is, not everyone has the same views. There are numerous varieties and sub-vrieties of religions. In fact, religion can be so diverse that one might say that he or she is of the same religion as another person but the way he or she demonstrates their beliefs may be dramatically different. In the novel, The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, Mark Twain, writes about a young boys growing and maturing experiences one summer as he travels down the Mississippi River. One of the things that this boy, Huck Finn, discovers is how religion affects his lifestyle. Huckleberry Finns views of religion have an impact on many essential points in the episodic novel. Religion has an effect on three of Hucks major decisions throughout the novel. His religion is tes ted when he first decides to help Jim run away. His religion is tested when he lies to most of the people he meets traveling down the Mississippi River, and Huckleberrys religion is tested when he decides to help Jim escape from slavery for good. We will write a custom essay on The Religion Of Huckleberry Finn Paper specifically for you for only $16.38 $13.9/page Order now Huckleberry Finn was raised without a strong religious influence. Hucks father being a raging alcoholic, and Huck living mostly on his own, were two of the factors that contributed to this. Pap came to visit him one night and expressed his negative thoughts on school and religion. First you know youll get religion, too. I never see such a son (Twain 20). Despite these warnings, the Widow Douglas continued to teach Huck. Later in the novel, these teaching have consequential effects on Huck. Hucks religious morals are first tested when he decides to help the Widows slave escape to freedom. During the time that The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn took place, slavery was not uncommon. In the beginning of the story, Huck displays similar beliefs as the people that are raising him; blacks are considered property and not people. Huck chooses to help Jim run away despite the fact that he knows that Jim is considered property and helping him would be like stealing. The widow tries to convert Huck to Christianity. She preaches all about heaven, hell, and the things that one should do to get to either place. Huck is not too concerned about either, obviously, because he helps Jim run away. As Jim and Huck travel down the Mississippi, Huck, at first, does not think much of the fact that he is helping Jim escape to freedom. As the novel progresses, though, Huck begins to think about the consequences of his actions. The things that the Widow had previously worked diligently to install in Huck had some effect on him. This is apparent for the first time when Jim expresses his anxiety to become free. This makes Huck feel nervous of the deed that he is doing. Well I can tell you it made me all over trembly and feverish, too, to hear him, because I begun to get it through my head that he was most free and who was to blame for it? Why me (Twain 85). Hucks first reaction is that he is letting the Widow Douglas down by not returning her property. Huck is only worried about honor and what was right for the time but a similar event happens later in the novel where Huck considers his actions a little more carefully. .u9e5626aa16daf58ed5c7cc865d3e9e92 , .u9e5626aa16daf58ed5c7cc865d3e9e92 .postImageUrl , .u9e5626aa16daf58ed5c7cc865d3e9e92 .centered-text-area { min-height: 80px; position: relative; } .u9e5626aa16daf58ed5c7cc865d3e9e92 , .u9e5626aa16daf58ed5c7cc865d3e9e92:hover , .u9e5626aa16daf58ed5c7cc865d3e9e92:visited , .u9e5626aa16daf58ed5c7cc865d3e9e92:active { border:0!important; } .u9e5626aa16daf58ed5c7cc865d3e9e92 .clearfix:after { content: ""; display: table; clear: both; } .u9e5626aa16daf58ed5c7cc865d3e9e92 { display: block; transition: background-color 250ms; webkit-transition: background-color 250ms; width: 100%; opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #95A5A6; } .u9e5626aa16daf58ed5c7cc865d3e9e92:active , .u9e5626aa16daf58ed5c7cc865d3e9e92:hover { opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #2C3E50; } .u9e5626aa16daf58ed5c7cc865d3e9e92 .centered-text-area { width: 100%; position: relative ; } .u9e5626aa16daf58ed5c7cc865d3e9e92 .ctaText { border-bottom: 0 solid #fff; color: #2980B9; font-size: 16px; font-weight: bold; margin: 0; padding: 0; text-decoration: underline; } .u9e5626aa16daf58ed5c7cc865d3e9e92 .postTitle { color: #FFFFFF; font-size: 16px; font-weight: 600; margin: 0; padding: 0; width: 100%; } .u9e5626aa16daf58ed5c7cc865d3e9e92 .ctaButton { background-color: #7F8C8D!important; color: #2980B9; border: none; border-radius: 3px; box-shadow: none; font-size: 14px; font-weight: bold; line-height: 26px; moz-border-radius: 3px; text-align: center; text-decoration: none; text-shadow: none; width: 80px; min-height: 80px; background: url(https://artscolumbia.org/wp-content/plugins/intelly-related-posts/assets/images/simple-arrow.png)no-repeat; position: absolute; right: 0; top: 0; } .u9e5626aa16daf58ed5c7cc865d3e9e92:hover .ctaButton { background-color: #34495E!important; } .u9e5626aa16daf58ed5c7cc865d3e9e92 .centered-text { display: table; height: 80px; padding-left : 18px; top: 0; } .u9e5626aa16daf58ed5c7cc865d3e9e92 .u9e5626aa16daf58ed5c7cc865d3e9e92-content { display: table-cell; margin: 0; padding: 0; padding-right: 108px; position: relative; vertical-align: middle; width: 100%; } .u9e5626aa16daf58ed5c7cc865d3e9e92:after { content: ""; display: block; clear: both; } READ: Bovine Spongiform Encephalopathy EssayHuckleberry finally begins to realize that Jim is not property, but an actual person. He plays a trick on Jim and finds out that he has feelings too. This brings Huck and Jim closer together and Huck accepts the fact that Jim is not a slave but a friend. Huck is tried again for what to do about Jim when Jim is sold to Silas Phelps down south. He knew he had to get Jim out somehow and he still was feeling guilty for taking him in the first place. And at last, when it hit me all of a sudden that here was the plain hand of Providence slapping me in the face and letting me know that my wickedness was being watched all the time from up ther e in heaven (Twain 204). Huck decides to write to Jim to save him from a life of slavery with a complete stranger. He never sends the letter but he feels much better after he writes it. All right, then, Ill go to hell (206). Ultimately, Huck came to the conclusion that he has already done so many sinful things that there was no use in trying to get to heaven anymore. Today, many Americans would look at Huck and believe he was right in trying to free Jim. During the era of the Civil War, many would think differently. Huckleberry Finn could hardly be called sacrilegious but he was no saint either. Religion had a good deal of impact on him. It almost caused him to give himself up to do what he thought was right. In the beginning of the novel, we see that Huck is not interested in religion, or what the Widow has to say at all. Throughout each episode, however, one can see that what the Widow taught him had some effect. Religion

5 Strategies for Writing University Assignment Within the Limited Time

5 Strategies for Writing University Assignment Within the Limited Time 5 Strategies for Writing University Assignment Within the Limited Time Time is an enemy for many students who study at college or university. It takes them a long time to make a report or write a coursework. What to say about exams when the time is limited? No educator will wait for the moment when a source of inspiration, time and the desire for an assignment will appear. It is supposed to be written and submitted to an instructor on a due date or within specific time. The question is how to succeed in performing successfully all of them and not to flunk out. It doesn’t matter whether you find yourself in such a situation because of huge tones of work on your shoulders or simply because of procrastination. What matters is how you use the limited time to tackle a college assignment effectively. 1.   Stay Calm According to the research study, anxiety during such stressful events as exams or tests is the main cause of students’ inability to achieve acceptable results. Don’t allow your fears to fail such an important stage in life to graduate from university. If you experience anxiety, mindfulness and relaxation strategies can help you improve low test performance and reduce anxious feelings. Don’t panic even if you feel the time pressure is too much. Stay calm and start working on assignments. 2.   Read Through Assignments Carefully Whether it’s a last minute assignment or an exam, reading through the questions helps you understand what is required. Even with the limited amount of time, don’t rush to answer a question. Use the first few minutes to read each question carefully without replying it. Look for keywords in each question and circle or underline them. There are words that should guide you on how you are supposed to answer questions. However, you should always have in mind that time is of the essence so don’t take too much time on this. This should only take up to a maximum of 5 minutes. The examples of some keywords that you should be on the lookout for include: outline; highlight; discuss; compare; contrast; illustrate; state; explain; elaborate. 3.   Start with Easy Questions The major reason why most students fail to complete their exams is simply due to the fact that they waste too much time thinking about what they don’t know rather than focusing on what they already know. Don’t run out of time whereas you have easy questions unanswered. According to BTPS Testing, a test preparation program, starting with easy question helps to: increase your chances of scoring higher in the assignment/exam; save time which is essential when you have limited time; help in boosting self-confidence; help you remember. 4.   Prioritize Your Tasks Take note of the marks awarded to each and every question and this will give you an idea of how many points you can earn. Needless to say, complex questions are assessed higher than simple ones. Besides, questions that assess special knowledge and skills are given higher points than questions that assess common knowledge. Try to concentrate on a task that guarantees you to get high marks. 5.   Plan Your Answers As the saying goes â€Å"Failing to plan is planning to fail†. When you have limited time to do an assignment you can save a lot of time if you plan your answers. At MyCollegeSuccess real students share their effective tips how to deal with college assignments. Role of HR in Knowledge Management Research Paper

Role of HR in Knowledge Management - Research Paper Example Most of the organizations do not effectively utilize Human Resources’ contribution for the effective implementation of Knowledge Management. If people are managed effectively and their knowledge utilized efficiently, then evidently it can become a competitive advantage. Relying on modern information systems will be fruitful if people are actively involved in knowledge sharing. The different areas of Human Resources which help in effective knowledge sharing are reward systems, recruitment, retention, succession planning and training and development. The first and most obvious area of Human Resources involvement in Knowledge Management is reward management. It is very clear that employees will not be ready to share their knowledge and expertise until and unless they are rewarded. This is not Human Resources’ role alone but its contribution is necessary. Building a culture for Knowledge management on certain values will require changes in systems and processes, and a way of doing things which both transmits the organizational culture to new employees and reinforces it to old employees. As with any change situation, conflicts can arise. This is where Human Resources can contribute to the development of the Knowledge Management culture by handling such conflicts.
